The COVENANT
is STILL IN EFFECT
The COVENANT is STILL IN EFFECT because:
1. that Nation still exists, and
2. those Terms are still being enforced!
The People of the Covenant have always existed as a Nation on earth. Though they may have disappeared from this world’s mainstream history books, God has promised to preserve them as a nation forever.
Jer 31:35-37
35 Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for light by day And the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar; The LORD of hosts is His name: 36 “If this fixed order departs From before Me,” declares the LORD, “Then the offspring of Israel also will cease From being a nation before Me forever.” 37 Thus says the LORD, “If the heavens above can be measured And the foundations of the earth searched out below, Then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel For all that they have done,” declares the LORD.
And whether they know it or not, that Nation is still being governed by the Terms of that Covenant.
Deut 4:30-31
30 “When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice. 31 “For the LORD your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them.
Deut 30:1-2,9-10
1 “So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind in all nations where the LORD your God has banished you, 2 and you return to the LORD your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons,…9 “Then the LORD your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers; 10 if you obey the LORD your God to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the law, if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.
Now notice that the “statutes” are included along with the “commandments“. Both are included as terms of The COVENANT.
Leviticus 23 lists these statutes that are declared to be “holy convocations” and “My appointed times“. Each of these holyday observances was to be a “perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings” (Lev 23:14,21,31,41). Three times a year the people were to gather and appear before God to keep these holy convocations (Ex 34:18-23; Deut 16:1-16). These were very important terms of The COVENANT!
Now, consider that the fulfillment of Holyday 1, the Passover, in 30 A.D. is the main proof that these statutes, the terms of The Covenant, are still being enforced!
The death and resurrection of the Messiah as the Passover Lamb of God is the main proof that The COVENANT is STILL IN EFFECT!
The Israelite’s yearly ritual of the Passover Service was intended as a TYPE to prepare these people, and all of mankind, to recognize and accept the death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah and the Passover sacrifice that would deliver all people from their sins. The ANTI-TYPE fulfillment of that TYPE would not have occurred if The COVENANT was dissolved when the Israelites broke its terms. The Messiah knew that He was sent to fulfill Holyday 1 as the Passover anti-type.
Mt 16:21
21 From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.
And there will soon be a second witness to this truth that The COVENANT is STILL IN EFFECT for the nation that is descended from the ancient Israelites.
The second witness is HOLYDAY 2 – The DESERT MIRACLE.
Notice the reference that this miracle will occur “in Jacob“.
Ps 99:1,4
1 The LORD reigns, let the peoples [5971: nation] tremble; He is enthroned above the cherubim, let the earth shake! 4 The strength of the King loves justice; You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
God faithfully remembers The COVENANT that He made with the “house of Israel” as He performs His miraculous transformation of the desert “in Jacob” to deliver them from their slavery in today’s modern Egyptian bondage in order to keep the “feast in the wilderness” which is designated as HOLYDAY 3 – PENTECOST.
Ps 98:1-3
1 O sing to the LORD a new song, For He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him. 2 The LORD has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered His lovingkindness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
The Nation that is descended from the house of Israel will be the location of the fulfillment of HOLYDAY 2 – the second witness that confirms that The COVENANT is STILL IN EFFECT and that it still determines the future of that Nation and the rest of mankind according to the terms of The COVENANT made long ago at Mount Sinai.
Deut 29:14-15
14 “Now not with you alone am I making this covenant and this oath, 15 but both with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the LORD our God and with those who are not with us here today
